X.org Scroll button on different input device from pointer device

Asked by [ Editor ] , Edited by Fernando C. Estrada [ Admin ]

I have a laptop (HP Elitebook 8540w) that has touchpad and a pointstick. The buttons(3 below the touchpad for when using the touchpad, 3 above for when using the pointstick) are part of the touchpad device. The pointstick device has no buttons. While X.org automatically configures things properly so everthing works well, there is one problem. I cannot find a way to configure the middle button to act as a scroll  button for the point stick.  How would I go about configuring the middle button(belonging to the touchpad) to do scrolling when the pointstick is moved up/down?
