Upgrading Squeeze to Wheezy

Asked by , Edited by Helmut Grohne [ Editor ]

Hi people! Could anybody help me? Yesterday I was upgrading my Debian Squeeze to Wheezy. I upgraded successfully and everything works fine. My problem is when I execute apt-get update in the console, it gives me the message:

“W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/testing-updates/main/binary-i386/Packages  404  Not Found [IP: 64.50.233.100 80]

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.”

Is this an error on the page? I may have made a mistake editing sources.list

Thanks for your helping.

Regards.

So from your error message I can guess that your sources.list has the following line.

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian testing-updates main

Just what is testing-updates suite supposed to be? Yes, there is stable-updates suite (formerly volatile). But there is no need for such a thing on testing, because testing is frequently updated from unstable. I suggest that you simply delete that line since it makes no sense.
