Since I’ve upgraded my system from Squeeze to Wheezy my graphics performance is very poor.
This can be seen when watching movies (repeated short hangs), browsing the web (esp. in Chrome/Chromium noticeable hangs when opening new tabs) et. al.
This never happend when using Squeeze on this system.
During the upgrade my manual Nvidia driver installation was replaced by the packaged non-free driver.
How can I restore my former graphics performance?
This issue is very annoying and any hint would be greatly appreciated.
If you do not need the 3D capabilities you may be able to switch to the free nouveau driver. This may or may not solve your symptoms. At least it usually makes debugging easier.

and

comes to mind.
Looks like at the moment some drivers may not properly support graphics acceleration feature activated in recent cairo2.
I’m not sure if it will fix an issue for you but you might try latest drivers from “unstable” or use free nouveau driver which somehow always works better for me.
