How to suspend to crypto swap on squeeze?

Asked by [ Editor ] , Edited by Fernando C. Estrada [ Admin ]

I noticed that the uswsusp package (http://suspend.sf.net/) is not present in squeeze. How can I replace its functionality with other packages? Currently I suspend to a LUKS encrypted swap partition.

Not sure how it happens, but it just works, out of the box, now. Only the standard kernel packages need be installed, and the whole disk (or whatever parts you need) is encrypted with LUKS. The debian-installer sets it up.

Would you mind providing some more details? I am sure that upgrading my system will not “just work”. This question might also be a useful addition to the release notes section 4.1.

I have packages called hibernate and acpi-support installed, and suspending appears to just work.

In fact, I think this didn't require any setting up besides ensuring that I have sufficient swap space so I am not more familiar with the details.

What suspend method do you use? Where do you set the resume device?

I mostly suspend this laptop to memory unless I’m going to be unplugged for longer. My server is usually suspended to disk (including now). I think /etc/hibernate/suspend2.conf /etc/hibernate/hibernate.conf hibernate(8) and hibernate.conf(5) are the interesting bits.
