How to install debian on a partition of my external hard disk and make it bootable?

Pretty normally, actually. Just chose the external hard disk as an destination media and proceed with normal installation. It will ask you where to install bootloader and by default it will chose MBR (in this case, MBR of the external drive). Then you will need to change boot options in BIOS to start from the external drive or add Debian to the bootloader on your internal drive.
