How can I restart stopped daemons automatically?

Asked by [ Editor ] , Edited by Fernando C. Estrada [ Admin ]

Hi, I'm looking for a tool that can restart daemons in case that they stop running for some reason.

I've found that monit can do this. However, it seems to provide far more functions than the ones I need (like system monitoring, alerts and protocol verification). So I was wondering if there was any simpler tool that's specifically designed for this task.

Actually monit is the correct tool for that, it can do much more than this, but you don’t need to do it.

Of course you could also resort to (x)inet.d which can start the daemon for you whenever it is needed or even init via inittab might work for you…
