Easy-to-find MD5SUMs would greatly help -- e.g. for the firmware netins .iso...?

Asked by

Such a small thing in comparison to the work put into releasing the new builds,
to have a simple MD5SUMS link on any download page.. and so off-putting
to any potential newbie, to have to gooogle it every time like its not a very FAQ..

{Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place for this post.. just trying to get to grips with debian..}

Which download page did you find the image(s) on? There are checksum files on the server, in the same directory as the images.

Sorry about the slow response — I’ve only just discovered your reply. The download page I think could do with a nice simple MD5SUM link in particular is the main one: http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst#smallcd

But really, any “flypaper” download pages a newbie is liable to land on (rather than actually browsing a folder of .iso images). In particular, I couldn’t find checksums for the non-free images with firmware: http://www.debian.org/releases/squeeze/debian-installer/index.en.html

Eventually I found them with a lot of searching, but I could understand a newbie with less time than me being unnecessarily put off, for the sake of such a simple thing. In fact, I’ve only just come back to Debian again myself, being enticed oftentimes by the easy-install of some of the glitzy less-free Linux distros (glitzy as in printers, network cards etc. working without this kind of palava; I’m struggling at present with ailien-ing a .rpm, etc., to try & get my Epson Stylus DX4400 working in any meaningful way).

Nevertheless, ‘still sharing the love’ :–) Thankyou Steve, for your time in responding. Jem
